GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The University of Utah swim team racked up eight victories, including both women's relays, on day one of the CMU Intermountain shootout, which began on Friday at the El Pomar Natatorium in Grand Junction, Colo.
"It was nice to see them all race," said head coach
Jonas Persson. "The results were mixed, which was expected. We have work to do, and this meet gives us a lot of information on what we need to do.
Erin Palmer and
Jaek Horner stood out today."
The Utes got the season started with a win in their first race of the year, as
Norah Hay,
Erin Palmer,
Summer Stanfield and
Maddie Woznick combined to win the women's 400 medley relay 3:49.31.
Utah's second victory came courtesy of
Nick Chirafisi, who triumphed in his first collegiate race by turning in a time of 1:39.34 in the men's 200 free and
Summer Stanfield secured another spot atop the podium in the women's 400 IM, out swimming her competition in 4:27.55 Palmer followed by taking the women's 100 breaststroke, clocking in at 1:03.97 and
Jaek Horner won the men's 100 breaststroke, reaching the finish in 54.84.

Utah swam into the winner's circle one more time in the women's 200 free relay, thanks to the quartet of Palmer, Cathcart, Woznick and
Lily Milner and their time of 1:33.44. The Utes also ended the day with seven second-place finishes.
