LOS ANGELES –
Kathryn Grant earned a spot inside the top 10 in the women's platform, which highlighted the final day of action for the University of Utah diving team at the UCLA Diving Invitational, which concluded on Sunday at the Spieker Aquatics Center in Los Angeles.
"It was a solid effort today by everyone," said head diving coach
Richard Marschner. "For some reason, we were having trouble with our timing of our come-outs, so we were generally just over on most of our dives. I was happy with how everyone kept a good attitude and competed hard, even though we were a little off. It's still nice to come away with some good placings while knowing we have a lot of room left to improve. We didn't nail our dives today, but we didn't miss any either, so raising the floor of expectations is always good."
Grant finished the prelims with a score of 224.40, good enough to claim seventh-place in a field of nearly 50 divers. She maintained that standing in the finals, where she recorded a point total of 220.25.
Holly Waxman's prelim point total was 208.75, putting her in 12th and sending her through to the finals as well. There, she boosted her mark to 214.05 to move up into 10th.
Sydney Kowalski ended the competition in 24th.
On the men's side,
Elias Petersen competed in the 1m and started his afternoon with a score of 281.10 in the prelims to earn a spot in the finals. His finals mark of 326.40 moved him up to 11th and bested the NCAA Qualifying standard.
Looking Ahead
The team's male student-athletes will return to action on Jan. 19 at Wyoming, while the women's team will face Washington State on Feb. 2.
