WACO, Texas – The No. 6 Utah cross country team finished third in its first Big 12 Cross Country Championships race with 86 points on Friday at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course.
The Utes sat in third heading into the first 3k check mark with
Anna Peters leading the charge in ninth followed by
McKaylie Caesar in 10th. Utah took a slight dip at the 5k marker before a mad rush in the last 1k saw it jump back into third-place.
Erin Vringer made big strides in the final 1000m of the race, jumping from 19th to eighth-overall to earn All-Big 12 honors with a time of 19:56.48. Caesar wasn't too far back from Vringer, crossing the finish line at 19:58.96 to also notch All-Big 12 accolades.
Peters was the third scorer for the Utes, finishing 18th-overall with a mark of 20:07.02 to just miss out on all-conference honors while
Katarzyna Nowakowska grab 22nd-overall (20:14.85). Utah product
Morgan Jensen was Utah's fifth and final scorer on Friday, recording a time of 20:29.79 for 29th-place after passing six runners in the final kilometer.
Utah's next finisher was freshman
Marika Couture, who recorded a mark of 21:01.50.
Lindsey Peters checked in at 21:13.79 while teammate
Emily Chaston clocked in at 21:14.12 with
Grace Moroney (21:26.02) and
Sona Kourilova (21:37.07) rounding things out for the Utes in the women's 6k race.

The Utes now return home to Salt Lake City and regroup as they prepare for the NCAA Mountain Regionals on Friday, Nov. 15, in Reno, Nev., at Washoe Golf Course.
