SALT LAKE CITY – A career-high 19 points from
Mike Sharavjamts saw the Utah men's basketball team victorious over Queens 96-65 Thursday night inside the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
The Runnin' Utes (3-0) got a solid start to the game against the Royals, jumping out to a 27-9 lead before heading into the 5:45 timeout up 27-14. However, Queens finally found their rhythm on the offensive end in the final 3:49 of the half to get within 41-31 of Utah at the break.
Sharavjamts had an efficient first 20 minutes of play behind a team-leading 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting with 5 boards and 3 assists while
Jake Wahlin chipped in with 7 points on 5 rebounds for the Utes early on.
Utah got off to a hurry in the second frame, blitzing the Royals (2-1) with a 17-5 run to start the half before going on another 15-4 run to put the game away.
Gabe Madsen had 24 points to lead all scorers on 5-of-12 from deep while Sharavjamts finished with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists on 8-of-11 shooting – three of which came from beyond the arc.
Miro Little added a career-high 10 points while
Ezra Ausar recorded his seventh-career double-double with 10 points and 11 boards. Wahlin nearly picked up his first-career double-double, but was just shy with 8 points to go with a career-high 10 rebounds.
Keanu Dawes had a solid night off the bench, scoring 8 points on 3-of-4 shooting with 7 rebounds and 2 steals in just 17 minutes of action.
POSTGAME NOTES
- Utah (3 games), Arizona (2 games) and BYU (2 games) are the only Big 12 teams through games on Nov. 12 to not trail so far this season
- With 24 Tuesday night, Gabe Madsen moves up to No. 39 on the all-time scoring list at Utah with 1,036 points – passing Delon Wright (1,022; 2013-15), Angelo Robinson (1,020; 1980-84) and Pace Mannion (1,018; 1978-83)
- Ezra Ausar recorded Utah's first double-double of the season and the first since the VCU game last season
- Utah's 52 rebounds are the most since it's pulling down 57 against #8 Arizona in double OT at home – Utah had 51 against Central Arkansas (11/7/24)
- Last time Utah had two players with double-digit rebounds was against Iowa in the NIT
