COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Utah's swim team in Grand Junction, Colo. finished day three with four best times, and the other half wrapped its final day at Texas A&M with a bang, breaking a program record, earning nine top ten times and three NCAA B-cuts on Friday night.
Utah's swim team divided and visited Texas A&M's Art Adamson Invitationals and Colorado Mesa's TYR Invitational for their midseason competitions. In Texas, the Utes are facing off with the Aggies, Washington State, Air Force, Incarnate Word and conference rival, TCU. The Colorado crew is taking on Colorado Mesa, Colorado School of Mines, Wyoming and Northern Arizona.

"I'm really happy with how both teams performed, we raced with a lot of passion," said head coach
Jonas Persson. "The men were able to pull off a second-place finish, which they should be proud of.
A-Plus Finishes
- Norah Hay finished the 200-yard backstroke in third-place, touching the wall at 1:57.92 with Alexia Duncan right on her heels at 1:58.29.
- Brandon Miller earned a bronze medal for Utah with a 1:42.17 swim in the 200-yard backstroke.
- Parker McOmber and Nate Decker finished in the top-eight, coming in sixth and eighth with 1:45.80 and 1:48.70.
- Lily Milner came in fourth in the 100-yard freestyle clocking in at 49.68, Erin Palmer wasn't far behind in eighth place with 49.96.
- Rylee McColley snagged a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:14.52.
- Sydney Even swam a 2:02.31 in the 200-yard butterfly finishing in seventh, right above Duncan with a 2:04.37.
- Evan VanBrocklin was the gold medalist in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 1:44.07. Jakub Walter grabbed a fourth-place finish for the Utes with a 1:44.63.
- Nick Chirafisi stole the show with a bronze medal in the 1640-yard freestyle with a finish of 15:04.95.
Best Times, Cuts and Records
- Riso, Palmer, Hay and Milner broke a 17-year-old record in the 400-freestyle relay, setting a new program high of 1:18.65.
- Miller's 200-back time beat the program's third-highest time that he set in March, keeping Miller at that third slot with a new time.
- Chirafisi grabbed the fifth fastest time in the mile with his 15:04.95.
- Jones Lambert put his name in the seventh slot for fastest 1650-free with a time of 15:11.60.
- Milner's 100-free grabbed the eighth spot in the program's top ten times with a 49.68.
- McColley marked her name in the top ten times in yet another race, coming in at the eighth fastest time in the 200-breast.
- Caleb Gallagher swam into the third-fastest 200-breast time with a 1:57.67 in his finals race.
- Walter moved up the 200-fly ladder with a 1:44.63 bumping him into the fourth slot.
"It is certainly nice to see that we are in a good place half-way through the season," said Persson. "I'm looking forward to start preparing for the second half of our season, including U.S. Open, quality dual meet and conference championships."

- Hayley Smith rocked the night with a fourth-place performance in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:30.85, dropping three seconds from her prelims swim.
- Milla Ruthven followed right after Smith, coming in fifth with a 4:33.20, dropping almost two seconds off from her swim Friday morning.
- Sofia Carlson swam a 1:54.74, earning a 19th place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.
- In the 100-yard breaststroke, Hilja Schimmel dropped 0.40 for a bronze medal finish after touching the wall at 1:03.21.
- Anelise Hedges followed closely coming in in eleventh-place with a 1:04.01, dropping almost half a second.
- On the men's side, Oskar Farkas earned a silver medal in the 200 free after swimming a 1:38.63.
- Colin Parker finished 13th in the 100-yard butterfly after racing a 49.96.
- Alex Turney swam a 54.89 in the 100-breast, earning a sixth-place finish for the Utes.
- Gannon Flynn went a lifetime best time in the 100-breast, touching the wall at 55.54 and finishing in eighth.
- Jonathon Michaels swam a 49.63, touching the wall just before a CMU swimmer and earning a sixth for Utah in the 100-yard backstroke.
Best Times
- Flynn earned two lifetime bests in one day, breaking his personal record in the 100-breast in prelims and then in his finals swim breaking it again.
- Smith and Carlson both earned season bests, Smith in the 4-IM and Carlson in the 2-Free.
- Lauren Greenwell lead off the Utes in their 400-medley relay with a lifetime best in the 100-yard backstroke, coming in at 1:00.14.
"Everyone is a little tired, but hopefully we can rally and have a great final day," said Taylor.
