AUBURN, Ala. – The University of Utah's dive team wrapped the final day of the Auburn Diving Invite with the women taking part in the tower event earning four spots in the top 15 on Saturday morning in the James E. Aquatics Center.
In the final session, the women took on tower. The top 12 student-athletes on the event continued on to finals, with junior
Sydney Kowalski representing the Utes.
"The women had a solid tower event and we actually had three women qualify for finals, but we had a few nagging injuries we didn't want to push, so we scratched out," said head diving coach
Richard Marschner. "As a result, it allowed Sydney the opportunity to compete in finals and she made the most of it, jumping to seventh."
For the Girls
- Kowalski earned a place in finals, heading in seeded in 12th, but bumping herself in to seventh after her five dives. She started her list with her strongest dive, a reverse 2 ½ tuck off the ten-meter platform, adding 54.60 points to her overall total of 224.80.
- Senior Holly Waxman finished her preliminary round in ninth-place with a score of 220.35. In the fourth round, Waxman collected 58.80 points on her back 2 ½ tuck off the five-meter platform.
- Junior Kathryn Grant grabbed 11th place after her final dive, a back 2 ½ with a 1 ½ twist pike, added 57.60 points for a total of 216.85.
- Following close behind, freshman Callie Eaglestone came in in 12th place with a score of 208.55. Her highest-scoring dive was in the second round, a front 2 ½ pike off the 5m platform, scoring 46.80 points.
"She just missed her zone cut, but she was very resilient and had a great bounce back from prelims," said Marschner.
