Utah Beach Volleyball Splits Season-Opening Matches

Utes secured three straight-set wins against University of the Pacific

DAVIS, CA – Utah Beach Volleyball split their opening day matches of the 2024 season on Saturday, defeating University of the Pacific 4-1, before falling 5-0 to host UC-Davis in their final match of the day. Utah captured wins in straight sets in three of the four victories over the Tigers from the University of the Pacific.

In their first match of the day, the duo of Langley Griffin and Katie McAlister secured their first win of the season in three sets, 21-13, 15-21, 15-13. Utah would see two courts hold their opponents from Pacific to less than 10 points in a set. Lauren Sayre and Chloe Narancich took their match on court No. 3 21-16, 21-9. Milan Ray and Sonja Wessel locked up the fourth win of the day on court No. 5, taking down their opposition from Pacific, 21-8, 21-17.

The pairing of Griffin and McAlister put up a fight on the first court, in their match against UC-Davis, falling in a close 26-24, 25-23 battle. Rylee Johnson and Bella Vezzani would take the only set of the second match securing the second set 21-15 on court number two against the Aggie pairing.

The Utes begin the final day of competition in California at 10:30 a.m. MT against host UC-Davis before closing the opening weekend against University of the Pacific at 1:30 p.m. MT.
