SAN DIEGO – Sophomore
Harley Daniel had a great end to her weekend, setting a couple of new PRs in the hurdle events to lead the Utah track & field team on Saturday at the Aztec Invitational on the SDSU Sports Deck.
Â
Daniel kicked things off with a PR run of 13.75 in the 100m hurdles to better her second-place mark in the Utah record books.
Bailey Kealamakia was just shy of her personal best time after she crossed with a mark of 14.69.
Â
Chloe Shewell was the lone Ute in the 400m dash and set a new personal best with a time of 57.87 in her first outdoor race of the year.
Â
Malia Overton was the first Ute to cross the finish line in the 100m dash, checking in at 12.37 while
J'neya Hill posted a time of 12.46 in her first outdoor race ever as a collegian.
Â
The Women of Utah had five compete in the 800m run. Freshman
Kyla Martin was the first Utah runner to finish, checking in at 2:08.96 for fourth-overall.
Erin Vringer was the next Ute to cross the finish line with a time of 2:1162 while
Millie Wilcox was right at her tails at 2:11.65 for seventh.
Katarzyna Nowakowska, like her other fellow freshmen, made her collegiate debut and ran 2:13.82 for eighth.
Grace Moroney was the final Ute running in the event and finished with a time of 2:18.50.
Â
Then in the 400m hurdles, Daniel went out and won the event with a new personal best time of 58.21 – moving up two spots in the all-time record book at Utah from sixth to fourth in the pouring rain.
Ally Gomm (1:00.66) and Kealamakia (1:00.70) weren't far behind Daniel and finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Â
With the rain subsiding just enough to get the rest of the race in, Utah's 4x400m relay crew consisting of Daniel, Kealamakia, Gomm,
Josefine Eriksen and
Emily Martin came out focused to win the event with a time of 3:41.34 – which is good for fourth-fastest at Utah.
Â
Over in the horizontal jumps,
Shana Van Elderen had the furthest jump for Utah with a leap of 5.55m (18-2.5) but had a wind aid of +2.3. Meanwhile,
Delaney Gates posted a counting mark of 5.0m (16-8) in her section of the long jump.
