INDIANAPOLIS – Two-time All-American
Jaek Horner capped off his collegiate career for the University of Utah swimming and diving team on Saturday by participating in the men's 200 breaststroke at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, which concluded on Saturday at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
One day after achieving All-American status in the 100 breast, Horner swam in the 200 breast prelims and recorded a time of 1:54.60. That mark put him in 27th place on Saturday in what goes down as the final collegiate race of his decorated career.
"Jaek had a decent 200," said coach
Jonas Persson. "His focus has been on the 100, so the 200 was in some ways a bonus event, but he did a nice job.
"The last five years have been full of growth and and development. Swimmers like Jaek are why we do what we do as coaches. He's grown academically, athletically and personally. I could not be prouder of him. The Olympic Trials are up next for him, so it's not over yet."
During Horner's time at Utah, he set new program records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and recorded top 10 times in the 200 individual medley and the 100 freestyle as well. He was also part of three Utah relay teams that posted marks which still stand as Ute records. Horner achieved All-American honors for the first time in 2022 as part of the squad's 200 medley relay team, then he achieved that status again on Friday, finishing 11th in the nation in the 100 breaststroke at the NCAA Championships.
As a team, the Utes finished the 2024 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships with six points.
