FEDERAL WAY, Wash. –
Evan VanBrocklin broke his own program record in the 200 fly to highlight the first day at the Pac-12 Men's Swimming Championships, which got underway Wednesday for the University of Utah men's swimming team inside the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
"It was a decent start," said coach
Jonas Persson. "We had a lot of personal best splits on relays and
Evan VanBrocklin had a nice time trial swim in 200 fly, which was a school record. Our relays were young and we showed some inexperience, but overall we're in a very good place for tomorrow morning and for the rest of it."
VanBrocklin's most recent record-breaking performance in the 200 fly came when the Utes took on BYU on Feb. 9 and he reached the finish in 1:42.87, but he was even faster on this night to top his old program best.
The night started with the 200 medley relay and Utah's quartet of
Parker McOmber,
Jaek Horner,
Jackson Kehler and
Davis Stachelek reached the finish in 1:27.03. That was followed by the 800 free relay and
Marko Kovacic,
Nick Chirafisi,
Jakub Walter and
Davis Stachelek teamed up to post a time of 6.27.80.
The Utes concluded the first day of competition with 75 points.
