FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The University of Utah men's swimming team added four new top 10 times to the program record book on Thursday during the second day of competition at the 2024 Pac-12 Men's Swimming Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
"We had a lot of personal-bests today," said coach
Jonas Persson, "and right now, more than half of our swims are lifetime bests, so I'm very pleased where we are at and what we're doing. A lot of our best swims are from freshmen and sophomores, so the future is bright. Our upperclassman are also stepping up really well and putting up some best times, which is very impressive. I'm looking forward to tomorrow, as I think we're going to have a great prelim session."
One day after breaking the school record in the 200 fly,
Evan VanBrocklin topped his previous personal best in the 500 free, clocking in at 4:22.04, seventh-best all-time by a Ute. Right behind VanBrocklin were
Nick Chirafisi, who recorded the eighth-quickest time in Utah history at 4:22.05, and
Jakub Walter, who finished in 4:22.67, good enough for ninth in school history. VanBrocklin's effort came in the prelims, while Chirafisi and Walter posted their times in the C final.
Dylan Becker also reached the 500 free C final and touched the wall in 4:23.83.
Baylor Lewis added one more personal-best to the Utah record book on Thursday and it came in the 200 IM C final. The Colorado native reached the finish in 1:47.33, putting him eighth all-time.
Utah will enter day three of the Pac-12 Championships with 111 points.
