SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah Lacrosse team ran past the Robert Morris Colonials on Friday night at Ute Field, winning 14-6. Utah improved to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in ASUN play.
The Utes held the Colonials to just one goal in the second half, keeping them out of the cage completely in the fourth quarter. RMU's six goals total in the game marked the second-lowest allowed in program history.
Robert Morris committed 24 turnovers with 15 being caused by the Utes, which ranks second all-time. The Utes also won the ground ball battle with 36 to RMU's 30, also finishing with 12 faceoff wins compared to the Colonials' 11.
GAME LEADERS
Senior
Jared Andreala tied his career-high in points with six, scoring a career-best five goals with an assist to lead the Utes. Seniors
Tyler Bradbury and
Carson Moyer also both finished with four points with Bradbury scoring two goals and two assists while Moyer contributed a goal and a career-high three assists.
Senior
Jordan Hyde and sophomore
Ryan Stines added complete games for the Utes, scoring two goals each with Stines recording three ground balls and a caused turnover with Hyde also grabbing two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Tyler Kloeckl finished the game with a team-high six ground balls, also winning a career-high 11 faceoffs (11-of-19). Sophomore
Nikko DiPonio added four ground balls and a career-high five caused turnovers with his five CTOs tying the single-game record at Utah.
In goal, sophomore
Colin Lenskold held the Colonials to just six goals, finishing the game with seven saves for the win.
FIRST QUARTER BREAKDOWN
The Utes and the Colonials traded goals to start the quarter with Andreala scoring his first of the game at the 12:42 mark before Robert Morris tied things up just a minute later.
Utah answered with a 3-0 run to take a 4-1 advantage on goals from Bradbury, Stines and Andreala with 7:10 to go, but Andreala's second goal of the game would be their last of the quarter with the Utes heading into the second up 4-2.
SECOND QUARTER BREAKDOWN
Robert Morris scored early in the second quarter to make it a one-point game, by Bradbury would find the back of the net with his second goal to make it 5-3 with 13:26 on the clock. The Colonials had an answer though, countering with two unanswered to tie things up 5-5 at the 9:50 mark.
The Utes scored back-to-back goals from Andreala and
Freddie DiMarzo to jump back out to a two-goal lead with 3:23 left in the half, keeping RMU out of the scoring column for the remainder of the quarter.
THIRD QUARTER BREAKDOWN
Justus Peterson made it a three-goal lead with 12:08 on the clock in the third before RMU cut it back down to two at the 6:13 mark. The Utes continued to push though, scoring two straight from Andreala and Moyer to make it 10-6 heading into the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER BREAKDOWN
RMU's sixth goal with 6:13 to go in the third quarter would be its last of the game with Utah scoring four more in the fourth quarter for the win. Hyde, Stines and Andreala combined for the final four goals of the game with Andreala scoring his fifth and Utah's final goal to secure the 14-6 victory.
