SALT LAKE CITY – Two-time ASUN Men's Lacrosse Coach of the Year
Andrew McMinn has signed a contract extension through the 2028 season, announced today by Director of Athletics Mark Harlan.
"
Andrew McMinn has done a phenomenal job of guiding our men's lacrosse program for the past three years," Harlan said. "I'm thrilled to extend his contract and ensure that he will continue to lead and mentor our student-athletes. Back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and three consecutive ASUN regular season championships speak to the competitive success his teams have achieved, and his development of our student-athletes on and off the field, with a commitment to academics, has been exemplary as well."
Since stepping foot on campus in 2022, McMinn has taken the program to new heights and has been an integral proponent of "Salt LAX City" earning a spot on the national stage.
In 13 seasons as a head coach, McMinn is 110-79 (.582) overall and is the all-time wins leader at Utah with a record of 34-14 (.708) as the program heads into its seventh year as a Division I program in 2025. Utah has broken over 70 school records in the last three seasons, including 14 being broken in 2024.
He has led Utah to 10-or-more wins in all three years, three regular season ASUN titles and two ASUN Championships, all culminating in the program earning its first berths into the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championships (2023, 2024).
"I am extremely grateful to receive this extension and continue to push our program forward for years to come," McMinn said. "I can't thank Mark Harlan and the rest of our administration enough for their trust, support and commitment to making our program elite and giving us everything we need to compete at the highest level of our sport."
At Utah, McMinn has coached four conference player of the year honorees and has seen the program earn 18 All-ASUN selections. Under the Pittsburgh, Pa., native, the Utes have also earned the program's first three All-America nods in
Nikko DiPonio (2024),
Ryan Stines (2024) and
Samuel Cambere (2022).
In the past three seasons, Utah has finished in the top-three in the ASUN in assists, caused turnovers, ground balls and points per game, also leading the conference in caused turnovers, scoring offense and turnovers per game in 2024.
The Utes wrapped up this past season sitting in the top-10 in Division I men's lacrosse (73 total teams) in assists (8.53), caused turnovers (9.88), points (23.35) and turnovers (14.06) per game, along with scoring margin (+3.94) and scoring offense (14.82).
Off the field success has also been essential to the growth of the program under McMinn with Utah producing three ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, 10 ASUN All-Academic Team selections, three USILA Scholar All-Americans and one CSC Academic All-American.
In addition, the Utes are avid volunteers in the community, consistently working with the Feed U Pantry on campus and homeless shelters across the Salt Lake Valley.
"It is an extreme honor and privilege to lead this program and be a part of such an incredible university and athletic department," McMinn said.
