RICHMOND, Va. –
The University of Utah swimming and diving team had 16 of its student-athletes honored on Wednesday when the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America released its annual list of Scholar All-Americans.
Those 16 selections included five First-Team All-American honorees, as
Emilia Nilsson Garip,
Kathryn Grant,
Holly Waxman,
Elias Petersen and
Jaek Horner all earned such recognition. First-Team All-American spots go to those with a GPA of 3.5 or higher who qualify for the NCAA Championships.
This makes three consecutive seasons Waxman has earned a place on the first team and Grant has now accomplished that feat in back-to-back years, while Horner collects his second such honor after first achieving Scholar All-American status in 2021. Nilsson Garip and Petersen are first-time selections.
Utah's second-team picks were
Brandon Miller,
Dylan Becker,
Baylor Lewis,
Landon Nava,
Evan VanBrocklin and
Tomas Chocholaty on the men's side and
Cameron Daniell,
Erin Palmer,
Norah Hay,
Summer Stanfield and
Sydney Kowalski from the women's squad. Second-team honorees must have also earned a 3.50 GPA or higher and achieved a "B" time standard for the national championship or participated at a diving zone qualification meet.
Stanfield and Becker have now garnered Scholar All-American recognition four times during their collegiate careers and Hay, Miller and VanBrocklin have landed on the list twice. For Lewis, Nava, Chocholaty, Daniell and Kowalski, this represents their first such award.
The 16 total selections are the most Utah has earned since they also had 16 student-athletes chosen in 2021.
