PARIS – Former Utah All-American
Josefine Eriksen made her debut in the Games of the XXXIII Olympiads on Friday inside Stade de France after running the lead leg in the women's 4x400m relay for Team Norway.
Â
"It is surreal to think that little me from Norway had the opportunity to take part in the Olympics," Eriksen said after the race. "I am very grateful for the opportunity and incredibly proud of our team."
Â
Eriksen has ran the lead leg for the Norwegian Women in all three international championship races this season and capped things off with her 52.30 split in the 4x400m relay at the Olympics – which was fourth-fastest among the lead runners. Team Norway would finish with a time of 3:28.61 for sixth in the first heat.
Â
"I am grateful to Coach Rebecca and Janelle for cheering me on in such an important championship," said Eriksen of the Utah staff that made their way to Paris. "It was fun to share this moment with them. It was also an inspiration to see Simone [Plourde] run in the Olympics; it's reassuring to have an old teammate there as well. It's also cool to know that there are multiple Utah athletes competing at the Olympics here in Paris."
Â
The Stavern, Norway, native recently wrapped up her time at Utah graduating with a degree in family, community & human development, and was the second Woman of Utah to make their debut at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
Â
"I am very thankful that both my parents and fiancé could watch me run in the Olympics," Eriksen said after having time to process everything after her race. "It's a dream I can share with them. I am also very grateful to everyone who cheered me on from Paris, the United States and back home in Norway!"
Â
International competition on the track will officially wrap up for the Women of Utah later this month after
Kyla Martin competes in the
World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru, Aug. 27-31.
