SALT LAKE CITY — The Big 12 Conference announced its weekly award winners with Utah women's basketball's Gianna Kneepkens being named Player of the Week.
Kneepkens put up back-to-back 30 point games last week. First, she started by putting up a double-double against Kansas with a then career-high 30 points and a season-high 10 rebounds. She was just shy of the triple-double as she added a season-high eight assists to her stat line against the Jayhawks. She went 12-of-18 from the field (a career-high) and six made from deep (another career-high).
Later against BYU, Kneepkens topped her recently set career-high of 30 points by dropping 32 points against the Cougars including a new career-high of 10 made free throws. She went 8-of-16 from the field, 6-of-7 from the three and 10-of-12 from the line. Kneepkens started the game against BYU going 5-5 from beyond the arc and didn't miss a three point attempt until the fourth quarter. She also put up eight rebounds and recorded two assists and three steals against BYU.
Over the two games, she averaged 31 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals per game. She shot 58.8% from the field, 66.7% from the three and 83.3% from the line. Kneepkens' 31.0 points per game led league players during the week and ranked fourth in the country.
Kneepkens has put up four consecutive 20 point games and has 20 or more points six different times this season. She's averaging 18.8 points per game this season and shooting 50.2% from the field, 47.0% from the three and 89.9% from the line.
After putting up 12 combined made three pointers last week, Kneepkens now sits at No. 8 in the nation in total three pointers (62). She is also No. 7 in the nation in three pointers per game (3.10) and No. 6 in the nation in three point percentage (47.0).
She leads the Utes in made three pointers with 62 and made free throws with 89.
