IRVING, Texas – The University of Utah swimming and diving team earned it's seventh Big 12 Weekly Award after
Jesco Helling's performance in a tri-meet against a ranked Southern Methodist University and the University of Pittsburgh, the conference released today.
On Jan. 25, the University of Utah took on the SMU Mustangs and the Pitt Panthers in Dallas for their first tri-meet of the year. During the meet, Helling brought in two top-four finishes, a bronze on 1m and a fourth-place on 3m.
The Dresden, Germany native began the day on the one-meter springboard, bringing in a total score of 315.55. The biggest contributing dive came in the final round, an inward 2 ½ tuck, and added 63.55 points to his total and securing the bronze medal.
On the 3m springboard, Helling finished in fourth-place after totaling 343.90 points on his six dives. During his list, the graduate student had three dives score over 60-points and two reach the 58-point mark. Overall, his final dive was performed in the sixth round, an inward 2 ½ pike that brought in 64.50 points.
Helling was tied for third-highest scorer of the meet, accumulating 31 points after his two events along with teammate
Elias Petersen.
This is the seventh Big 12 weekly honor awarded to the Utah swim and dive program this season and the sixth to be awarded to a Utah diver.
