GEORGETOWN, Colo. – Freshman
Harry Hoffman of the Utah Ski Team recorded his first collegiate podium, placing third in a slalom race on Tuesday at Loveland Ski Area as part of the Denver Invitational.
Combined between the women's and men's races, Utah had five top-10 individual results, including all three scorers on the men's side.
Kaila Lafreniere was the top Utah finisher on the women's side, placing seventh.
Utah is second in the team standings following the opening race of the DU meet, with a giant slalom to follow on Wednesday at Copper Mountain. The Utes scored 158 points in today's slalom, with Colorado in the lead (181).
Women's Race
Kaila Lafreniere continued a nice start to her sophomore season with a seventh-place time of 1:30.98.
Claire Timmermann was in the top-nine for the day (1:31.33) while
Melanie Dahlberg (1:31.90) rounded out Utah's scoring in 12th.
The Utes also had
Kaja Norbye place 13
th and
Evelina Fredricsson was 15
th in the women's field.
"It's great to be racing with the team again," said Lafreniere. "I cannot wait to see what this season brings."
Men's Race
Utah had
Harry Hoffman lead the way with a time of 1:31.99—good for bronze. Teammate
Wilhelm Normannseth was right behind him in fourth place (1:32.24) and
Johs Braathen Herland (1:32.29) gave the Utes key points with a top-six result.
"Today was great," Hoffman said. "The snow was challenging, but I was able to fight my way down both runs. I'm super happy to get my first college podium, and to do it with this team is amazing. Having the team support is a great feeling, and knowing that both the guys and girls had a lot in the top-10 is great to see from the whole team."
Herland's second run (48.39 seconds) was top-four for the afternoon and it helped vault him up from 17
th place after his first run.
In addition,
Oliver Parazette was 19
th and
Simen Strand took 25
th.
