EUGENE, Ore. – The Utah women's tennis team took on Oregon, Portland, Washington and Washington State this weekend in the Oregon Duel with several Utes posting strong performances throughout the course of the weekend.
On the first day, Emmie Moore and Andjelija Markovic posted a 6-2 win over Waverly Potter and Zehra Suko from Washington. In the second round of doubles on the first day, Moore and Markovic posted a 6-3 win over Nadine Arbiazar Martinez and Meagan Pearson from Portland.
Also in the second round of doubles, Sara Akid and Kamea Medora downed Portland's Alaia Rubio Perez and Maria Galatescu 6-2.
In singles on the first day, Moore defeated Oregon's Patsy Daughters 6-2, 6-0. Akid also got a W for the Utes defeating Olivia Symons from Oregon 5-7, 6-4, 11-9. Kaila Barksdale picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win over the Ducks' Virginia Crocker to end Day One.
Akid and Moore teamed up the second day for doubles action and picked up a 6-4 win over Juliet Santitto and Tilde Jagare from Oregon. In singles action, Moore battled in a tight match with Rubio Perez with Utah coming away victorious with 5-7, 7-6 (5), 12-10.
Later, Barksdale defeated Portland's Maria Galatescu with 6-1, 6-1 scores. Akid closed out the second day with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Portland's Arbiazar Martinez.
On the final day, Utah played only singles matches. Moore kicked the day off with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Washington State's Chisato Kanemaki. Akid followed it up with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Martina Puvill from Washington State.
Hailey Kerker played a one set match over Washington's Suko and picked up the 6-4 single set win.
Barksdale ended the tournament with a crazy win by downing Oregon's Hinata Furutani 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 13-11.
UP NEXT
The Utes will travel just south to Provo, Utah for the ITA Regionals hosted by BYU Oct 7-10 to wrap up fall play for the Utes.
