IRVING, Texas – Senior
Elias Petersen has been named the Big 12 Men's Diver of the Week after recording three top-five finishes at the Big Al Invitational last weekend, the conference announced Thursday.
Petersen won on the 1-meter springboard with a 334.85, his second win in the event so far this season. The Malmo, Sweden, finished second on the 3-meter board with a 357.05 for his best result in the event this fall. After logging a season-best 302.80 in prelims, Petersen took third on platform with a 290.95, one of three Utes to finish in the top four on Saturday.
Petersen has made finals on all three events in each of the last two meets after starting his senior campaign with wins on the 1- and 3-meter against Colorado Mesa.
This marks the third weekly award for the Utes this season and 13th since joining the Big 12 Conference prior to last season. Petersen joins Kathryn Grant and
Attila Bernatsky as Utah divers who have earned Diver of the Week status so far this year. 10 of Utah's weekly awards across the last two seasons have been won by divers, and four of those have been claimed by Petersen.
Petersen and the Utah divers are back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 16. The men's side will compete against FAU while the women's squad will go up against FIU and Marshall at the Doral Aquatic Center in Miami.
