IRVING, Texas – Four members of the Utah swimming and diving program have been recognized by the Big 12 Conference with weekly awards, the league office announced Tuesday.
Senior
Elias Petersen was named Men's Diver of the Week for the second time this season while sophomore
Callie Eaglestone earned her first Women's Diver of the Week nod. Freshman
Stephanie Oiesen was tabbed as Women's Newcomer of the Week and sophomore
Nolan Dunkel was named Men's Newcomer of the Week after both helped lead the Utes to victory over Hawaii last week.
Petersen swept the competition in Miami when the Utes took on FAU, winning on the 1-meter springboard with a 307.05 and the 3-meter with a 348.30. He followed that up with another win on 3-meter – his third of the season – against Hawaii with a 361.88 while placing second on 1-meter with a 327.60. Petersen has won six total events so far in his senior campaign.
Eaglestone collected a pair of wins on the 3-meter springboard across Utah's last two meets. The Stanley, United Kingdom, native took gold against FIU and Marshall with a 289.85 before claiming the top spot on the podium against Hawaii with a 326.10. She also logged a pair of second-place finishes on the 1-meter board, finishing behind teammate
Kathryn Grant in both meets.
Dunkel helped guide the Utah men to a 165-59 win over Hawaii last week. He took second in the 100 Fly with a 48.79, his best result of the season in the event. He also served as the leadoff in both the 200 Medley and 200 Free relays, both of which took the top spot on the podium. A transfer from NC State, this marks Dunkel's first Big 12 weekly award.
Oiesen played an instrumental role in the Utah women's 126-98 win over the Rainbow Wahine. The freshman placed second in the 100 Back, touching the wall in 57.58, and took sixth in the 100 Free with a 54.20. The Pflugerville, Texas, native also led off the 200 Free relay, swimming a 25.25 split as her team finished fourth. This also marks her first weekly award nod.
Utah has now claimed seven weekly awards this season and 17 total since joining the Big 12 Conference prior to last season. 12 of Utah's weekly awards across the last two seasons have been won by divers, with five of those claimed by Petersen.
The Utes resume competition once the calendar turns to 2026. The men's swim team is set to take on Denver in Colorado on Jan. 9, while the women's team will square off with UCLA, Iowa and UCSB in Los Angeles for a quad meet on Jan. 10. Diving will also head to the City of Angels for the UCLA Diving Invite from Jan. 9-11.
