Utah Beach Volleyball posts most successful start to season in program history

DAVIS, Calif. — Utah Beach Volleyball completed a very strong weekend at UC Davis, ending the weekend with wins over San Jose State (4-1) and Santa Clara (3-2). This marks the first time in Utah Beach Volleyball history that the team has started with a record of 4-0.

In the opening match against San Jose State, Utah took control early, winning four of five matchups. Langley Griffin and Bella Vezzani secured a 21-16, 21-18 win, while Kylie Pitzak and Ellyn Collins followed with a 21-15, 21-16 victory. Katie McAlister and Quincy Stephens battled back after dropping the first set to claim a 12-21, 21-16, 18-16 win. Lauren Sayre and Maeve Griffin locked in another point for the Utes, winning in straight sets, 21-19, 21-9. The only loss of the match came as Chloe Narancich and Milan Ray fell in three sets, 21-14, 12-21, 11-15.

In Utah's second match of the day versus Santa Clara, No. 1 pair Katie McAlister and Quincy Stephens led the charge once again, taking a 21-15, 21-18 win. Langley Griffin and Bella Vezzani dominated with a 21-13, 21-14 victory. Kylie Pitzak and Ellyn Collins added another straight-set win, 21-16, 21-14. The Utes saw losses in two matchups, as Lauren Sayre and Maeve Griffin fell 15-21, 21-19, and Sonja Wessel and Elle Burleson narrowly lost a three-set battle, 21-16, 21-23, 11-15.

Utah Beach Volleyball will continue its season next weekend in Miami, Fla., competing in the Florida International University Invitational. The Utes will face FIU, Southern Mississippi, and Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday, February 28, and Saturday, March 1.
