FEDERAL WAY, Wash.– Breaking a third program record in the third day of competition, the University of Utah swim and dive program collected 11 top ten times and thirty finals appearances at the Big 12 Conference Championship on Thursday at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center,

Jonas Persson, "Some swimmers were tired from yesterday, but we pushed through and got the job done. We're very happy with all the personal bests and program records we're hitting."
Smashing Records
- Evan VanBrocklin broke the team's 100-yard butterfly record in his preliminary swim, securing a place in the A-final. In his final swim, he touched in at 45.98, successfully breaking the record for the second-time.
- The Utes have consistently broken a program record each day of the Big 12 Championship, now tallying three in as many competition days.
Top Eight
- VanBrocklin grabbed a seventh-place finish in the 100-fly after breaking the Utah record.
- Strahinja Maslo collects a seventh-place finish of his own in the 400-yard IM with a time of 3:47.98.
Top 10 Times
- Norah Hay earned the seventh-fastest time in Utah history with a 53.63 finish in the 100-yard butterfly.
- In the 400-yard IM, Ella Derby won her race, taking the top spot in the B-final and touching in at 4:17.55 for the sixth top time in the Utah record books.
- In the same race on the men's side, Maslo's 3:47.98 moves him to the fourth-fastest time.
- Isabella Riso moved in to the eighth slot of the 200-yard freestyle top ten with her finish of 1:47.69.
- Jones Lambert grabbed the seventh-fastest time with a 200-free finish of 1:35.25.
On the diving side, the Utah men competed on the one-meter springboard, while the women took on the three-meter. Three Utes, one on 3m and two on 1m, made it in to the top eight in prelims, successfully earning a spot in the A-final. Three Utes found a place in the consolation final after finishing in 9th-16th in prelims.
"We are battling and competing as well as I've seen us compete," said head diving coach
Richard Marschner. "I'm proud of what we've done so far. Elias was golden in my mind. He put on a great show and I think that anyone who watched agrees that he did enough to win, but sometimes things don't always go your way."
Won Meter
- Elias Petersen fought for the top spot in the one-meter final. Finishing with a score of 382.85, Petersen was three points short of the gold medal. The junior averaged 63.81 points each round, with his first round, an inward 2 ½, securing 69.75 points. This is the second podium finish for Petersen, the first Ute to secure a top three finish in multiple events.
- Jesco Helling grabbed a fifth-place finish, moving up two places in the final. His evening list earned a total of 322.10, with his front 2 ½ earning the most points at 59.80.
- Attila Bernatsky earned his first-career Big-12 finals appearance, finishing in seventh in the consolation final with a score of 266.15.
Three on Three
- Callie Eaglestone earned the top finish for the Utes on 3m, securing a fourth-place medal after her six-dive list totaled a score of 306.90. Averaging 51 points each round, her last dive, a front 2 ½ with a full twist, was the showstopper, bringing in 60 points.
- Kathryn Grant took the top spot in the consolation final with a total of 304.15, more than 20 points ahead of the next diver.
- Also in the consolation final, Holly Waxman grabbed third-place with a score of 276.95, securing 16 points for the Utes.
- Sydney Kowalski and Sarah Kauffman finished their preliminary lists with scores of 217.05 and 212.00.
"The women fought hard and to see Kat and Holly step up in the consols was a great testament to who they are as people and competitors," said Marschner. "Callie was very smooth and consistent throughout prelims and into finals. She is diving incredibly well for a freshman and she is putting her mark on the conference early in her career."
Looking Ahead
The swimmers kick off day four at 11:00 a.m. on Friday morning for the preliminary competition, while the divers take their start at 12:30 p.m., both groups hoping to earn a place in finals at 6:15 p.m.
