HANOVER, N.H. – After a battle with six lead changes, the University of Utah lacrosse program ultimately fell to Dartmouth College, 11-9, at Scully-Fahey Field in Hanover, N.H. on Saturday afternoon.
Utah started the game with the first score on the board, effectively ending the five-minute drought and putting the Utes ahead for, what would become, the first of many. The lead went back-and-forth, changing six times throughout the four quarters. In the fourth quarter, the Big Green would score to tie up the match with 3:30 left, and then proceeded to score back-to-back shots to take the game.
GAME LEADERS
Three Utes top the chart for points,
Ryan Stines,
Zachary White and
Luke McNamara, each accumulating four marks with different statistics. Stines tallied one goal and three assists, while White earned his first collegiate hat trick and added a helper and McNamara found his third game with multiple scores, this time achieving four. Four players hit the net, with McNamara leading the roster with his four. The freshman also led the team with seven shots, six on goal, with
Cody Hart tallying six attempts.
Defensively, sixteen different Utes grabbed a groundball with
Tyler Kloeckl leading the way. Kloeckl scooped six, with McNamara and
Nikko DiPonio not far behind with four. As a team, the Utes found 37 groundballs and six caused turnovers. Kloeckl and
Bryce Madden attempted 24 faceoffs, winning 12 and keeping Dartmouth to the same, each team earning a 50% faceoff percentage. In the cage,
Colin Lenskold saved 14 of Dartmouth's attempts, facing a season-high of 47 shots.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- This is the fifth game this season where Utah hits the scoreboard first.
- Two Utes earned a hat trick, White marked three goals marking down this achievement for the first time in his collegiate career, McNamara marks his second this season.
- Karson Sparks earned his first career point and goal, after hitting the net with a long shot in the fourth quarter.
- The Utes and the Big Green tied in ground balls, both teams achieving 37.
- This marked the first meeting between these two teams.
