SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah track & field DRM team was victorious on Saturday and earned a trip around the famed blue oval with their white flags after running the second-fastest time in program history (11:07.60) inside Drake Stadium for the 115th edition of the Drake Relays.
Â
Freshman
Lauren Ayers ran the second-fastest opening 1200m leg as she passed the baton to
Kyla Martin with a time of 3:24.41. Martin kept pace with the lead pack in the 400m stretch of the race before turning things over to
Annie Ivins for the 800m leg.
Â
Ivins was within 10m of the leader throughout her two laps around the track before passing it on to
Bri Rinn for the final 1600m in fourth. The Lincoln, Neb., native bided her time keeping pace with the lead group before making her move with 200m to go. As she took the final turn heading into the straightaway, Rinn had separated herself from Iowa State's runner to cruise past the finish line and secure the victory for Utah.
