SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah swim and dive program's
Elias Petersen earned Academic All-American third team honors for the 2024-25 academic year, marking the second Utah diver this season to be recognized by the College Sports Communicators for academic and athletic excellence.
This is the first time being named to the CSC Academic All-America team for Petersen, who also was named Big 12 Diver of the Year for his outstanding season. He earned a place as one of just five divers on the list of 31 swim and dive student-athletes to be named Academic All-America for 2024-25.
Making a statement in both the pool and the classroom, Utah's All-American holds a 3.66 in his Communications program with an emphasis in Journalism. Not only did the Malmo, Sweden, native earn a place on the national stage on both springboard events, but his stellar six-dive list at the NCAA Championships put him in fourth-place following his finals performance.
Petersen's fourth-place finish earned the junior his first All-America recognition and marked the highest finish on that event by a Utah diver. He made his presence known this season, not only with his performance at NCAAs, but with his silver and bronze medals at the Big 12 Championship as well.
Petersen and Utah graduate student
Jesco Helling were two of five divers named to the Academic All-America list.
"It's an incredible testament to our program both athletically and academically that Utah was able to have two out of the five divers selected to the Academic All-America team," said head diving coach
Richard Marschner. "Both Jesco and Elias have put in a ton of work and they represented our program really well, and hopefully now everyone can see it's not just about diving, but we're great at academics too."
