JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of Utah lacrosse team fought a hard battle against the Air Force Academy Falcons, but eventually lost the back-and-forth ASUN Championship game in a one-point deficit, 11-10, at Rock Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
In their second match up of the season, the Falcons walked away with another one-point win over the Utes. At eight different points throughout the four quarters, the game was even, proving to be a well-matched hit-for-hit battle.
In the end, the Falcons took the lead in the fourth quarter and though the Utes closed the deficit to one, they came up short in the final minutes.
GAME LEADERS
Freshman
Luke McNamara ran the Utah offense for the second-straight game, marking his fifth hat trick of the season and second straight. Junior
Ryan Stines led in the point category, clocking two goals and two assists for a total of four points. Sophomore
Cade Faulkner was the last of the roster to tally multiple goals, but senior
Cody Hart, junior
Will Overly and freshman
Chase Robertson all hit the net for the Utes.
On the defensive side, sixteen different Utes picked up a ground ball, with junior Tyler Kleockl leading the pack with six. Taking all of the face-offs for the first time this season, he successfully marked 15 wins of 24 attempts. In the net, junior
Colin Lenskold stopped six of the Falcons' attempts and faced 38 shots.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- McNamara marked his fifth hat trick of the season and his second in as many games.
- With his two assists, Stines's season record tallies to an even 40, surpassing the previous record holder by seven.
- Kleockl won 15-of-24 faceoffs, earning a win percentage of .714 and slotting him in to the Utah single-game record book in tenth place.
- Sixteen different Utes picked up a ground ball, Kloeckl leading the crew with six.
- Junior Nikko DiPonio's season total for ground balls came out to 96, marking him in third-place in the record book.
- This is Lenskold's fourth game this season where he held the opponent to 10-or-less goals.
- The Utes out shot the Falcons (45-38), but tied in ground balls (30).
