SALT LAKE CITY — Utah women's basketball is preparing for the 2025-26 season and welcoming back several familiar faces including senior, forward
Samantha Crispe.
Crispe, a Castle Pines, Colorado native, has played in 57 games as a Ute. She's shooting 46.6% from the field and 75% from the line in her initial two seasons with Utah. She's pulled down 85 rebounds averaging 1.5 boards per game.
UtahUtes.com recently talked with Crispe and she shared why she came to Utah, some of things she's proud of and her style of play.
1. What's your favorite thing about Utah and the women's basketball program here?
The unwavering support from the coaches and support staff at Utah. Of course, my teammates have turned into my best friends. The majority of my bridesmaids will be my teammates.
2. What is a core basketball memory?
When I used to play 2v2 in the driveway with my dad and brothers.
3. If you could play any other sport collegiately, what would you play and why?
Swimming. I used to compete competitively and was on track to swim in college. Thankfully, I took the other route and continued with basketball.
4. If one of your teammates is having a bad day/game, what would you say to them to give them a pep talk?
Don't cry that it happened but smile because it's over. Just kidding, maybe just to learn from your mistakes and move on. It's not that deep at the end of the day.
5. What's an aspect of your basketball game that you're most proud of and why?
An aspect of my basketball game that I am proud of is my rim running. It is something that I have control over. If my shots aren't falling or I am not getting rebounds, I can always try my hardest to be the first one down the floor and hopefully open up shots for my teammates.
6. Who is someone you look up to or admire and describe why?
That would most definitely be my family. My parents work hard every day to give me and my siblings the best lives possible and support us in everything we do. My brothers are also pretty cool, but not as cool as me, obviously.
7. What's the coolest sports memory or moment you've ever witnessed with your own two eyes?
It would probably be Maty Wilkes' half-court buzzer beater to beat BYU in overtime last year or Dasia Young's gamewinner against Colorado during the 23-24 season.
8. What would your walk-up song be?
Courtesy of the Red White and Blue by Toby Kieth
9. Why do you wear No. 44 on your jersey?
4+4=8 and 8 is my favorite number.
10. What are three words to describe yourself?
Curious, ambitious, and hard-working
11. What's your biggest green flag?
My love for the U.S.A.
12. What's the best advice you've ever been given?
Take what you have in front of you and run with it; don't look back because you can't change the past.
13. What's the most random thing on your bucket list?
Glassblowing. I know it's super random, but I first saw it on a cruise one time and have become obsessed with it. Since then I have always wanted to try it.
14. What's your go to comfort food?
"Cheesy chips" Just like how it sounds, cheese melted straight on top of chips. My dad used to make it for me all the time.
Bonus! Share one fun fact about yourself that you want the world to know
- I am working towards getting into law school next year and interned for a law firm this summer. My wish is to one day help advocate for student-athletes. I would also love to do pro bono work for veterans.
- This is always a big one but my mom, my uncle – her brother who is five years younger than her – and I were all born on Christmas Day.
