Petersen, Grant lead Utes in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES – Utah diving closed out its weekend at the UCLA Diving Invite at Spieker Aquatic Center on Sunday with the men's 1-meter springboard and the women's platform competition.
We finished up really strongly today with Kathryn Grant and Elias Petersen leading the way, head diving coach Richard Marschner said. The senior captains do such a great job with just staying focused during the meet. They both had strong performances today, and it was a really good practice meet for Zones.
Petersen led the Utah men on the 1-meter board, logging his third top-five finish of the weekend with a second-place result, scoring a combined total of 629.60 between prelims and finals. Attila Bernatsky placed 10th overall, scoring 536.20, and Alex Just rounded out the Utes' lineup with a 496.40.
On the women's side, Grant also reached her third final of the weekend, placing sixth on platform with a combined total of 475.05. She was the lone Ute to qualify for finals on the day, and was also the lone Utah woman to finish no worse than sixth on all three events.
Callie Eaglestone placed 24th in prelims with a 196.80, Annalise Shrader scored a 183.20 to place 28th, Sarah Kauffman came in 30th with a 182.10, and Cierra Cole logged a 151.10 to finish in 36th.
This was a really good start for the second half of our season and we're looking forward to heading down to Tempe next week, Marschner added.
