IRVING, Texas – Seniors
Davis Stachelek and
Kathryn Grant have earned weekly honors from the Big 12 Conference, the league office announced Thursday. Stachelek was named the Men's Swimmer of the Week for the first time in his career while
Kathryn Grant was recognized as the Women's Diver of the Week for the second time this season.
The Utes have now won Big 12 weekly awards following each of their last three meets.
Stachelek led all Utes last week with 18 points, helping the men's swim team improve to 5-0 in dual meets with a 165-132 win on the road at Denver. The Greenville, S.C., native won gold in the 50 Free and 100 Free and contributed to wins in both relays, swimming legs of 43.68 at the anchor in the 400 Medley and a 20.30 as the leadoff in the 200 Free.
Grant recorded three top-six finishes while leading the women's diving team at the UCLA Diving Invite. The Ontario, Canada, native won on the 1-meter springboard with a 590.05 – her fourth victory on the board this season – while taking sixth on both 3-meter and platform. Thanks to Grant's performance, the women of Utah finished second out of nine teams in Los Angeles. Grant has yet to place lower than sixth in any event so far this season.
Utah has now claimed nine weekly awards this season and 19 total since joining the Big 12 Conference prior to last season. 13 of Utah's weekly awards across the last two seasons have been won by divers.
Utah Swim and Dive is back at the Big 12 West Championship, hosted by Arizona State, starting on Friday. The two-day meet is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. MT both Friday and Saturday.
