FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. –
Callie Eaglestone opened the first day of the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships with a bang, winning on the 1-meter springboard inside the Wall Aquatic Center on Monday to secure a spot in the NCAA National Championships later this month.
The sophomore finished the day with a 574.45 total, four points clear of second place to become the first woman diver in Utah history to win at Zones. Eaglestone finished fifth in the event a season ago.
"Today went extraordinarily well," head coach
Richard Marschner said. "Callie just has a different level of competition, she was absolutely lights out. She's the first zone champion we've had since 2016 and the first Utah woman to do so so spectacular job from her and
Kathryn Grant to punch tickets to NCAAs."
Eaglestone logged 280.75 points in prelims and sat in third heading into finals. Joining her in the afternoon session was Grant, who placed moved up one spot from her finish in prelims to place fourth overall with a 555.55 total to punch her ticket as well.
The lone Utah man competing on the day, Petersen finished prelims in eighth place thanks to a 349.35 list total. He moved up the standings in finals, finishing fifth overall with a 708.10 total to seal an NCAA Championship berth.

Looking Ahead
NCAA Zone E Championships competition continues on Tuesday, March 10, with the women's 3-meter springboard and men's platform events. Prelims begin at 11:30 a.m. MT.
