ORLANDO, Fla.— The University of Utah women's tennis team will battle fellow in-state foe BYU in the first round of the Big 12 Championship tournament at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. First serve is set to begin at 8 a.m. MST (10 a.m. EDT).
The Utah Utes are ranked No. 8 in the tournament bracket with a 15-8 overall record and 8-5 conference record. The Brigham Young Cougars are coming into the Big 12 tournament ranked No. 9 with a 18-7 overall record and 7-6 conference record.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
The No. 9 BYU Cougars wrapped up conference play with a 4-0 loss to the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday, April 11.
Cougars' duo Kendall Kovick and Gracie Levelston def. Arizona pair Martyna Ostrzygalo 6-4 in doubles action. However, the Cougars couldn't grab any momentum as Arizona clinched the doubles point and then went on to capture three straight singles wins at the No. 1, 2, and 3 spots to clinch the match.
In singles action, the Cougars see success in Levelston, who holds a 12-5 record on the season while playing at the No. 1 spot. Levelston is currently ranked in the ITA polls at the No. 109 spot.
Wednesday's contest between the Utah Utes and BYU Cougars will mark the second time matchup between these two teams this season. Utah defeated BYU 4-2 back on March 7 after four straight singles wins to seal the match. Utah holds a 17-12 advantage in the all-time series.
THE UTES
The Utah women's tennis program returns seniors Dylan Lolofie, Kaila Barksdale and Emma Valletta. The Utes also welcome juniors Sara Akid and Emma Kamper this season. Utah has one sophomore returning to the squad in Hayley Roberts. The Utes welcome four newcomers with two transfers in Emmie Moore and Kamea Medora and two new true freshmen in Andjelija Markovic and Hailey Kerker.
LAST TIME OUT
The Utah Utes fell 4-0 to the Arizona State Sun Devils to close out their regular season.
In doubles action, the Utes got off to a stong start with Utah duo Kaila Barksdale and Emmie Moore securing a 6-0 win over Sun Devils pair Zlata Bartanusz and Sarang Lim at the No. 3 spot. ASU then went on to clinch the doubles point with two wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spot.
In singles play, Arizona State quickly clinched the win at the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 spots.
HEAD COACH RUTH ANN ALLEN
The Utah women's tennis team welcomed Ruth Ann Allen as head coach this past season. A Utah native and a Utah All-American and Hall of Famer, Allen returns to lead the program after a successful tenure as head coach at Weber State. She guided the Wildcats to a Big Sky Championship in 2023 and was twice named Big Sky Coach of the Year (2022, 2023).
Before Weber State, Allen spent 20 seasons as an assistant coach at Utah, where she helped the Utes secure multiple NCAA Tournament bids, two Mountain West Conference titles, and numerous top-five regional rankings. Allen, an All-American during her playing career at Utah, was inducted into the Utah Tennis Association Hall of Fame in 2023.

With a win, Utah will advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 1 seed UCF on Thursday at 4 p.m. MDT (6 p.m. EDT).
