Utah Golf Ties 11th in First Day of Big 12 Championship

HUTCHINSON, Kan.-- Utah Golf claims a piece of 11^th place after the first day of competition at the Big 12 Championship presented by Allstate, carding 17-over 577 through two rounds of play.

The Utes are currently tied with Kansas State.

ROUND ONE
Round one got off to rough start for the Utes who spent much of the competition in 15^th place before jumping up to a tie for 12^th with Kansas State to end the first session of the day with a 12-over 292 team total.

Brandon Robison had the smoothest go out of the gate, carding a 1-over 71 after round one, while Gabriel Palacios and Sergio Jimenez each posted a 3-over 73.

Jack Jerge and Davis Johnson rounded out Utah's round one efforts, carding a pair of 5-over 75s as the Utes turned their attention to round two of play.

ROUND TWO
Once again, a rough start put Utah in a hole, sinking back down to 15 for much of round two, but the Utes rallied in the back half to card a 5-over 285 to tie for 11^th place at the end of day one.

Jimenez led the charge in the second round, breaking even par for the Utes and ending the first day of competition at 3-over with a tie for 33^rd.

Robison was the highest Ute on the individual leaderboard after day one, tying for 25^th place after carding 1-over 70 in round two for a 2-over total on the day.

Palacios and Jerge ended round two at 2-over 72 each, with Palacios carding 5-over on the day and Jerge 7-over.

Johnson wrapped up Utah's starting five going 7-over 77 in round two, and 12-over for the day.

TOURNAMENT DETAILS
All 16 teams will play 36 holes on Monday, April 27 to start the tournament off, followed by two 18-hole days on Tuesday, April 28 and Wednesday, April 29 to complete a 72-hole event to crown a champion.

The individual and team stroke play champions will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
