Utes earned their first non-sweep victory of the season

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Volleyball got the best of No. 17 Baylor (18-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20) to continue the five-match win streak.

The Utes' victory over the Bears is their first win on the season that is not a sweep. Utah remains undefeated in three-set matches, being a perfect 9-0.

Utah's win over Baylor is its second ranked win of the season, with its first coming just last Friday night in Boulder, Colo. over the Buffaloes.

SET ONE
The opening set started even through an 8-8 tie. Katelynn Field and Isabelle Marco both recorded service aces. However, Baylor used a 5-1 run late in the set to take the opening frame, 25-18.

SET TWO
Two early kills from Kamryn Gibadlo helped Utah race out to a 5-1 advantage. Four straight Utah kills gave the Utes the lead at 17-16 later in the set. Princess Atamah broke a tie at 22, giving Utah momentum down the stretch. Atamah finished the set with a kill as Utah evened the match, 25-23.

SET THREE
Set three started tight before Baylor used an 8-3 run in the middle of the set to build a four-point lead, 14-10. A highlight-reel stretch of digs from Sierra Grizzle and Isabella Mogridge helped Utah battle back. Two Loryn Helgesen kills pulled Utah within one point, 17-16. Utah pulled away on a 4-1 run, with a Helgesen kill, 25-23, giving the Utes a 2-1 match lead.

SET FOUR
Utah carried its momentum into the fourth, with assists from Mogridge helping the Utes jump out to a 5-1 lead. Baylor tied the set at 10 before two Ashley West kills put Utah back in front, 12-10. A Levani Falatea service ace gave Utah a five-point lead and helped propel the Utes to the finish line, taking the final set 25-20.

STANDOUT STATS

Multiple statistics were evenly matched for both teams, with kills (53-52 Baylor), service aces (6-5 Utah) and blocks (10-9 Utah) each being within one.
Atamah had 10 kills on just 16 attempts, giving her an impressive .625% hitting.
Atamah also contributed a team-high 5 blocks.
Gibadlo (13) and Helgesen (12) were one and two on the team in kills.
Grizzle had a team-high 15 digs on the day.

UP NEXT
Utah heads back on the road to the Sunflower State to take on #19 Kansas on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. MT and Kansas State on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 5:30 p.m. MT.
