SALT LAKE CITY - Bill Bean, director of sports medicine for the University of Utah, and Joann Hulbert-Eagan, an academic advisor, have been honored for excellence in their respective fields.
Bean has been selected to receive the National Athletic Trainers' Association's 2002 Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer award, which recognizes outstanding dedication and service to the profession. Bean is one of just 11 recipients in the nation and will be honored on June 17 at NATA's annual meeting and clinical symposium in Dallas.
In his 26th year at the U., Bean oversees the Ute athletic training staff and works directly with the football team. He is a certified athletic trainer with a master's degree in sports medicine. Bean is also a licenced physical therapist.
Hulbert-Eagan has been named the winner of the U.'s Perlman Award for Excellence in Student Counseling. The award is given annually to one faculty member and one staff member who have made outstanding contributions to the University through their student advising and counseling. The winners are given a $500 stipend and recognized at the annual Alumni Association spring awards banquet on April 30.
Hulbert-Eagan is in her second year with the athletics department and her seventh year at the U. overall. She received her bachelor's degree in psychology and master's in special education from Utah.
