Frank Dolce, the starting quarterback at the University of Utah from 1991-92, has accepted a position as Director of the Crimson Club, effective July 1. Dolce, who was employed as the major gifts officer at the U., will now head up the athletics fund-raising effort. He replaces Terry Preston, who resigned in May.
Dolce has worked for the University's Central Development Office since August of 1999, soliciting gifts in excess of $100,000, as well as doing prospect research and acting as a project manager. Before gaining employment with his alma mater, he held positions as a field underwriter for Mutual of New York (1994-96), general manager of Vyzynz, a Salt Lake-based Internet service provider (1996-98), and mortgage broker for PHC Mortgage (1998-99).
"We are thrilled to have someone with Frank's ability and loyalty to the University of Utah directing the Crimson Club," says Utah Director of Athletics Dr. Chris Hill. "His enthusiasm and drive to succeed will make him a great addition to our department."
As Utah's starting quarterback from 1991-92, Dolce threw for 4,813 yards, the fifth-most passing yards in school history. He completed 57-percent of his pass attempts (ranks sixth) and threw 30 career touchdown passes (fourth). He led Utah to the 1992 Copper Bowl, the Utes' first bowl appearance in 28 years. At the Copper Bowl, Dolce passed for 316 yards in a 31-28 loss to Washington State. It ranks as the second-most passing yards in a bowl game by a Ute quarterback. As a first-year starter in 1991, he was named Utah's Most Valuable Offensive Player. He was an honorable mention all-Western Athletic Conference selection in 1992 and made the academic all-conference teams both years. As a senior, he led the WAC and ranked seventh in the nation in total offense. Before coming to Utah, Dolce was a first-team junior college All-American, playing for El Camino Junior College.
He stayed involved with the U. after finishing his collegiate athletic career, serving as a member of the Young Alumni, Crimson Club, Pioneer Theater, David Eccles School of Business and Marriott Library boards. In addition, Dolce has been a part of the KALL-910 radio team for Utah football games since 1993, handling the color commentary.
The 32-year-old Culver City, Calif., native graduated from the U. in 1993 with a bachelor of science degree in psychology. He is married to the former Amy Allred.
