On the thought process of subbing early…
We are trying not to have any injuries. Obviously if I had a do-over again, I would have done it in a little different fashion. I had a sense that the game was under control and it turned into a perfect storm. We have a lot of guys on our squad that work really hard all week and I thought this would be an opportunity to get them in the game. If I had to do it over again, I would have probably waited until we got inside that last media timeout but live and learn. I have always said it is important to take advantage of lessons. Nobody would have been more disappointed with the outcome. I wasn’t trying to disrespect anybody or anything. I apologize if anyone was offended because the game got too close, but like I said, I notched up a lesson in my mind and excited that we got a ‘W’.

On jumping out of the gates offensively…
We talked about getting the ball into the post. Dave has been settled with a little foul trouble and he got a couple quick ones against Oregon and didn’t have much of a chance. I saw a little focus in him today in shoot around and in practice. He was ready to go. He is a load down there. We tried to get it in to him and he did a nice job. Our guys for the most part made some mistakes in the first half and was really enthused at halftime. I just challenged them to play harder and get things crisper and tightened up. We came out in the second half and took care of business pretty well.
Â
On the free throw shooting…
It is not because we don’t practice them but we will now. That is part of the season I think. You can only put so many things on a practice plan this time of year. You take your deficiencies and plug in time at practice and if it is becoming a pattern then we are obviously going to have to practice more. It is difficult to do free throw shooting under pressure but we will get a little creative and come up with some of that stuff.

On being halfway through the Pac-12 season…
It doesn’t really matter where we stand right now. Four more home games and five on the road. It’s a little bit unique of those nine, four of them are against teams we haven’t played in Cal and Stanford. We have some of the teams off the slate with the Southern Cal’s and Arizona’s. We are going to have to be ready to go mentally on the prep to go against some of the teams we haven’t played yet and try to finish as strong as we can. Everything is coming to a head. The next thing for us is trying to figure out a game plan for Cal.

Â
On the quick start…
That is what we want to do. We have had a few where we don’t start too good and we don’t want to start in a hole.
Â
On working through foul trouble…
It is frustrating obviously, but there are some things I can work on to prevent that. I will be looking at film trying to figure it out.
Â
On when he knew he would come back in…
When the lead got within 10, we started sitting there and thinking let’s get some guys back in there and finish this off the right way.
Â
On Kyle Kuzma’s play…
He is a leader vocally and in his actions on the floor. He works hard out there and is a work horse. He does what he needs to do and a lot of times he gets us going.

Guard JoJo Zamora
Â
On getting nervous with the lead dwindling…
We were kind of nervous but we knew we were going to be able to pull it off.
Â
On Oregon State making a late charge…
I was surprised they came back. I kind of figured it was going to happen because the whole game we were kind of taking a foot off the pedal. Even in the first half, we weren’t really playing with energy so it all came back to haunt us.
