2026 – Redshirt Junior
- All-Big 12 Honorable Mention
- Started 50 games at first base, slashing .356 / .461 / .539, raising his batting average more than 50 points from the 2025 season.
- Contributed 10 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 48 RBIs along with 42 runs scored.
- Had the most walks on the team (28) as well as times hit by pitch (9).
- One of the Big 12’s top defensive first basemen, ranking third in the league with 42 double plays turned.
- Had just one error in league play on 237 chances (.996 fielding percentage).
- Finished among the team leaders in slugging (2nd), OBP (2nd), RBIs (2nd), hits (2nd; 68), batting average (3rd), home runs (3rd), runs scored (3rd), total bases (3rd; 103), doubles (T-4th).
- His .356 batting average ranked 15th in the Big 12 and his .461 OBP was ninth-best in the league.
- Also stole seven bases to tie for second-most on the squad.
- Racked up a 15-game hitting streak, the third-longest on the team, as well as a 24-game on-base streak (second-longest).
- Had two games with four hits, including the rubber game win at BYU (May 2).
- Drove in four runs in four different games, including with a grand slam at Utah Valley (March 31).
2025 – Redshirt Sophomore
- Hit .302 in 31 games played with 27 starts, primarily at first base.
- Contributed six doubles, two triples, 24 RBIs, 19 runs scored and three stolen bases.
- Defensively, had a hand in 20 double plays.
- Solid option at the plate when in need of a timely hit, boasting a .442 batting average with runners in scoring position and .342 with two outs.
- Six multi-RBI games and 10 multi-hit performances on the season.
- Went 3-for-5 in the rubber game win against BYU (April 12), driving in three runs and scoring another.
- Scored three times vs. Kansas (April 27) as part of a 3-for-3 day at the plate in which he had an RBI.
- Had another three-hit, three-RBI day at Pepperdine (Feb. 16) with a double and two runs scored.
2024 – Sophomore
- Played in 11 games with six starts, before missing the rest of the season due to injury.
- Singled and scored a run in the win at Pepperdine (Feb. 17).
- Contributed an RBI against CBU (Feb. 17) and vs. Oregon State (March 16).
- Ranked by D1Baseball.com as the Pac-12's No. 23 prospect for the 2025 MLB Draft.
2023 – Freshman
- Played in 43 games (41 starts), splitting time between catcher, third base, DH and first base.
- Did not strike out in his first 49 collegiate at bats, at the time making Gurney the nation’s toughest freshman to fan.
- Hit .279 on the year with six doubles, four home runs, 31 RBI, 14 walks and 23 runs scored.
- Ranked fifth on the team and led freshmen with 31 RBI.
- His eight multi-RBI games were tied for third-most on the team.
- Doubled and scored twice in the series-opening win vs. Washington State (April 28).
- Drove in three runs, scored and went 3-for-4 in the game vs. Northern Colorado (March 21).
- Went 3-for-3 in his collegiate debut at San Francisco (Feb. 19).
Prior to Utah
- Attended Pauline Johnson High School and played with the West Virginia Black Bears during the 2022 MLB Draft League season.
- Appeared in 13 games for West Virginia, hitting .171 with a double, two triples and three RBI.

- Son of Paul and Caitlin Gurney.
- Has one sibling, Anna.
