Will Heward was named director of baseball operations in October 2022 by head coach Gary Henderson. Heward manages all organizational aspects around the ballclub, including team travel, meals, film, recruiting and practice planning. He also supervises the Utes' team of student managers.
A native of Ogden, Utah, Heward took on the role after nearly two years with Utah Athletics as a learning specialist with the football program. In his previous role, Heward worked one-on-one with Utes student-athletes to foster academic independence and life skill development, including during the 2021 season which saw Utah win its first Pac-12 Championship and reach the program's first-ever Rose Bowl Game.
Before coming to the U. in February 2021, Heward was at Weber State University (2019-21), where he served as a graduate assistant mentor for the athletics academic services unit. He previously held a graduate assistantship at Montana State University, Billings, with a focus in gameday operations and sports information.
His initial foray into collegiate athletics came after Heward graduated from Washington State in 2018, remaining with the Cougars as a mentor in academics services.
Heward first pitched collegiately at Salt Lake Community College, earning NJCAA All-America honors with the Bruins. After a season with Washington State, the grad student helped MSU Billings win a GNAC Championship in 2019. Heward was named a team captain and GNAC All-Academic Team in 2020.
During his time with the Yellowjackets, Heward was a baseball representative for the MSUB Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He coordinated a variety of community service activities while at Washington State and also served a two-year mission in Peru for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Heward earned his Bachelor's degree in history in 2018, going on to earn his Master's in public relations from MSU Billings in 2020. He and his wife, Carley, were married in 2017.
