SAN DIEGO — The Utah baseball team used a six-run fifth inning to take down Creighton, 9-4, in the final game of the Tony Gwynn Legacy Tournament at Tony Gwynn Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Luke Jacobs and
Daniel Arambula recorded three hits apiece to lead the Utes (4-2). Utah's bullpen arms of
Ryan Kittredge,
Dylan Gazaway and
Dillon Fine delivered 8.1 innings of relief in the win, giving up just one run while scattering six hits.
After giving up three runs on two hits in the first, the Utes started to battle back. Â Utah got on the board in the second inning on a
Bradley Navarro double down the right field line, scoring
Cameron Gurney after he walked and advanced to second on a groundout.
Â
Utah continued chipping away in the fourth, making the score, 3-2, when
Jake Long drove in Arambula from second base with an RBI single. Jacobs kept the Utes' rally going in the fifth with a single to centerfield, scoring
Jet Gilliam to knot the score at 3-3.
Â
Gurney helped Utah put a crooked number on the scoreboard and take its first lead of the game as Jacobs raced home on Gurney's RBI single, making it 4-3 Utes.
Â
Arambula laced a single to center, plating
Nevan Noonan and after two Utes came across on a sacrifice fly and fielder's choice, Jacobs' second RBI single of the day gave Utah a five-run lead after five complete innings. Â Â
Â
Creighton got a run back in the seventh, but Utah added another in the eighth on Long's sacrifice fly to reach the game's final score
