FORT WORTH, Texas – Utah Baseball fell to TCU by a 3-0 score in the teams' series opener on Friday night at Lupton Stadium.

Starting pitcher
Colter McAnelly gave the Utes a quality start despite taking the loss, keeping Utah (24-20, 11-14 Big 12) in the game with six innings of three-run ball. The junior recorded four strikeouts in his outing to reach 200 for his career—making McAnelly the fifth pitcher in recorded Utah history to hit the milestone. He is the first to do it since Jayson Rose racked up a program-record 256 strikeouts from 2015-17.
Â
McAnelly scattered six hits in his outing and walked only one batter.
Dylan Gazaway relieved McAnelly out of the bullpen and tossed two shutout innings with two strikeouts, allowing two hits and no walks.
Â
Cal Miller singled and walked three times to stretch his on-base streak to 21 straight games. It is the longest active streak on the team.
Cameron Gurney doubled for the ninth time this season as well.
Â
Utah had runners in scoring position in three of the first four innings, but couldn't quite muster the game's opening run.
Â
The Frogs would break the ice in the home half of the fourth, after Sawyer Strosnider ripped a leadoff triple down the right field line and scored on a wild pitch. TCU stretched the margin to three runs in the bottom of the fifth, putting runners at second and third with one out and lacing a single through the left side to plate a pair.
