Andy Hill is entering his 10th year as an assistant coach with the Runnin’ Utes and was recently named a top-50 high major assistant coach at the Division I level by Silver Waves Media.
As assistant coach, Hill has helped lead the Utes to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2015 and 2016 - including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2015. The Utes also had three NIT appearances, including an NIT runner-up finish in 2018.
Hill has been part of the Utah staff that has developed three-consecutive first-round NBA Draft picks in Delon Wright (2015 Pac-12 First-Team All-Conference), Jakob Poeltl (2016 Pac-12 Player of the Year) and Kyle Kuzma (2017 First-Team All-Conference). During that stretch, the Utes were the only Pac-12 school to produce a first-round draft pick in three-consecutive years.
Meanwhile, the Utes posted five-consecutive seasons with 20-plus wins and have finished in the top-four of the Pac-12 standings five times during his tenure.
Hill is responsible for the program’s defensive schemes, recruiting and scheduling at Utah. He also assists with camps and has created an elite camp for top prospects across Utah and the Western US.
Coach Hill came to Utah from Montana, where he spent seven years as an assistant coach – including two seasons under current Runnin’ Utes Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak. Hill helped lead the Grizzlies to three NCAA Tournament appearances, most recently in 2010, as well as a CBI bid in 2011. He was also a member of the coaching staff during the 2005-06 season when Montana won its first NCAA Tournament game since 1975. The Grizzlies also reached the Big Sky Conference Tournament championship in four of his seven seasons. Hill helped coordinated Montana’s Roundball Club annual coaching clinics and fundraising efforts, and was also responsible for scheduling games, camps and recruiting. In addition, he organized community service events with the Missoula community and the state of Montana as well.
Prior to Montana, Hill served as a graduate assistant during the 2003-04 season at Eastern Washington – which won the Big Sky Conference that year. While at EWU, Hill helped coordinate the Eagles’ camps and assisted in recruiting.
Hill also coached at Lewis-Clark State College, where he served as an assistant coach to George Pfiefer. The Warriors advanced to the NAIA National Tournament during his time at Lewis-Clark State.
He began his coaching career at Whitworth College in Spokane, Wash., where he worked for legendary Coach Warren Friedrichs. During his time at Whitworth, Hill assisted with recruiting, scheduling and opponent scouting.
The son of a former coach, Hill graduated from Eastern Washington in 2000 with a degree in education. He has one son, Garrett.
