Utah Lacrosse head coach Andrew McMinn is set to begin his fifth year with the program in 2026. In each of his four prior seasons, McMinn has led the Utes to at least a share of the ASUN regular season championship with two outright titles (2022, ’23), two conference tournament crowns (2023, ’24) and a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances (2023, ’24).
The 20-year veteran of collegiate coaching has mentored over 30 players that have gone on to play professional lacrosse, including 23 during his time as a head coach. Most recently, Utah midfielder Carson Moyer (2020-24) reached the NLL ranks and is a member of the Albany FireWolves roster.
He holds an overall record of 116-90 (.563) and is 40-23 (.635) during his time at Utah with three seasons with 10-or-more victories.
McMinn, who was announced as Utah’s head coach in August of 2021 and received a contract extension through 2028 in the summer of 2024, is the second head coach in program history after lacrosse was added as an NCAA sport at Utah starting in 2018-19.
The two-time ASUN Coach of the Year (2022, ’23) has tutored five conference player of the year winners and 27 all-ASUN selections. Utah has also gone on to break over 70 school records in the last four years as the program continues to rise to new heights.
Utah won a share of the ASUN regular season championship in 2025, with the Utes ranking in the top-two of the league in nearly every major category. Nationally, the team wrapped up the year 17
th in goals scored per game (12.47), 12
th in clearing percentage (.886) and ninth in ground balls per game (34.6).
- Nikko DiPonio was voted the league’s Defensive Player of the Year, earning first-team ASUN All-Conference alongside Ryan Stines and Tyler Kloeckl. All told, nine members of the team pulled in postseason league honors.
- Stines earned a spot on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, setting a program record with 40 assists. His 2.67 helpers per game led the ASUN and placed him sixth in the country.
- The Utes also were in the upper tier of the nation in man-up offense, ranking 21st with a 40.9% conversion rate. Luke McNamara led the ASUN with eight man-up goals, a tally that was in the top-four across Division I.
- Academically, the Utes were lauded for classroom success as Cody Hart was named a USILA Scholar All-American while both DiPonio and Stines were tabbed CSC Academic All-District.
Culminating with a second straight NCAA Tournament berth, the 2024 Utes finished the season in the top-10 in Division I men's lacrosse (73 total teams) in assists (8.53), caused turnovers (9.88), points (23.35) and turnovers per game (14.06), along with scoring margin (+3.94) and scoring offense (14.82).
- Utah led the ASUN in caused turnovers, scoring offense and turnovers per game.
- The Utes' 14.82 goals per game in 2024 ranked fifth nationally.
- McMinn guided Stines to setting the school record for single-season goals (67) on the way to earning ASUN Player of the Year and USA Lacrosse All-America.
- He also coached Joey Boylston, Jared Andreala and DiPonio to first-team All-ASUN selections with Luca Pivetta earning a spot on the ASUN All-Freshman team.
- Off the field in 2024, senior Jordan Hyde was named the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year with Tyler Bradbury becoming the program's first-ever two-time CSC Academic All-American.
In 2023, McMinn coached the Utes to a program record 12 wins (12-5) with the team winning the regular season title with an undefeated ASUN slate (9-0). Utah would go on to win the ASUN Championship and earn a spot in the NCAA Championships for the first time in school history.
- Utah wrapped up the year leading the ASUN in assists (8.47), ground balls (37.24) and points (24.59) per game, also leading the league in clearing percentage (.909) and scoring offense (16.12).
- Utah’s 16.12 goals per game in 2023 ranked second nationally.
- Along with McMinn’s ASUN Coach of the Year honor, he saw Stines win ASUN Freshman of the Year with Bradbury, Hyde, Samuel Cambere, and Joey Boylston all earning first-team All-ASUN.
- Utah led the way on the 2023 all-conference squad with 11 total players.
- Through 17 games, Utah broke six team and five individual single-game records, 14 team and seven individual single-season records, one career record and six miscellaneous records (39 total).
- Utah had an 11-game win streak from March 18 to its NCAA Championships first round game vs. Notre Dame on May 13 with the streak including all nine ASUN games and a win over No. 10 Jacksonville (18-15) at home.
The 2022 ASUN Coach of the Year led the Utes to its most wins in program history in 2022, finishing the year 10-4 overall after winning the regular season ASUN title.
- Utah broke 42 school records in 2022, including single-season points, goals, assists, ground balls, faceoffs won and clearing percentage.
- The Utes finished the season leading the ASUN in assists per game (8.79), clearing percentage (.911), faceoff winning percentage (.536), ground balls per game (31.93), points per game (22.43) and scoring offense (13.64).
- He coached Cambere and Bradbury to ASUN Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year in 2022 with Cambere also earning All-America honorable mention.
- The Utes finished with seven total players on the ASUN All-Conference teams, leading the league with six first and second team selections.
- Utah beat No. 17 Vermont in 2022, the program’s first top-20 victory.
- The Utes had a seven-game winning streak in 2022, starting on March 26 and ending with the ASUN Championship game, the longest streak in program history.
McMinn came to Salt Lake City after spending 10 seasons as the head coach at Robert Morris University (2012-21), becoming the program’s all-time coaching wins leader with 76. The two-time Northeast Conference Coach of the Year spent 15 overall seasons at RMU, which included five as an assistant coach, leading the program to two NEC tournament titles and NCAA Tournament berths, and a regular season conference championship.
- In his 10 seasons as head coach, the Colonials secured seven winning seasons, including five in a row from 2017-21.
- He coached 54 All-NEC selections, six conference player of the year awards and five All-Americans, with 12 players landing roster spots in the National Lacrosse League after leaving Robert Morris.
- In 2018, McMinn led the Colonials to its first NEC Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament bid, setting a school record for single-season wins (13).
- RMU kept the momentum going into 2019, becoming the second program in NEC history to win back-to-back conference tournament titles with another NCAA Tournament berth in the books.
- McMinn won his second NEC Coach of the Year award in 2017 after seven players earned all-conference, with his first conference coach of the year award coming in his first season at the helm.
- In 2012, McMinn led the Colonials to a then program-record 11 wins in 15 games, winning the regular-season title.
Before joining RMU, the Pittsburgh, Pa., native was a standout goalie for the Providence Friars. In three seasons at Providence, McMinn led the team to two regular-season titles, a MAAC Tournament Championship and a berth in the 2004 NCAA Tournament.
The three-time All-MAAC selection held the top two single-season goals against average in conference history at the time, also ranking among the top goalies in Division I in both save percentage and goals against average.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in management with a minor in finance from Providence in 2005. He completed his Master’s degree in instructional leadership with a concentration in sport management from Robert Morris in 2014.
