Sean Doyle will begin his fourth year as an assistant with the Utes in 2025, working primarily as Utah’s defensive coordinator.
Doyle has been a part of the staff that has won three straight ASUN regular season titles as well as back-to-back ASUN Championships. Utah's recent success also led the Utes to two straight NCAA Tournament appearances (2023, 2024).
In 2024, Utah's defense ranked highly in the ASUN and nationally with Doyle seeing two defensemen landing on the All-ASUN first-team.
Utah's defense ranked No. 3 in the ASUN in scoring defense, also ranking No. 2 in ground balls per game.
He saw All-ASUN first-team selections Nikko DiPonio and Joey Boylston rank in the top-15 nationally and top-three in the ASUN in caused turnovers per game, which included DiPonio leading the conference and ranking No. 7 in the country with 2.12 per game.
Doyle coached DiPonio to earn Inside Lacrosse All-America in 2024 after he broke the school records for single-game (6) and single-season (35) caused turnovers.
He also saw the Utes earn their first-ever berth into the NCAA Championships in 2023 after Utah won a program-high 12 games (12-5).
For the second straight season, Utah led the ASUN in ground balls per game (37.24), also ranking fourth nationally.
Utah also ranked second in the league in caused turnovers per game in 2023 (8.29).
He saw defensemen Samuel Cambere and Joey Boylston earn first-team All-ASUN honors with Colby Plotts landing on the second-team.
Doyle coached Cambere to finish in the top-40 in the NCAA in caused turnovers per game (1.47).
In 2023, Utah held opponents to 12 goals or less in 10 games.
Doyle was integral in Utah’s success in 2022 with the program finishing with a then-school record 10 wins (10-4 overall) and an ASUN regular season title.
He coached the Utes to finish first in the league in ground balls per game (31.93), also finishing second in the ASUN in scoring defense (11.36).
He led Samuel Cambere to an All-America honorable mention selection and the title of ASUN Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.
Cambere ranked sixth nationally and third in the ASUN in caused turnovers per game (2.00), also ranking third in the league in ground balls per game (7.93).
In the final six games of the 2022 season, the Utes held four of their opponents to 10 points or less.
Doyle comes to Utah after playing under and coaching with McMinn at Robert Morris University. The Owings, Md., native spent the last two seasons as an assistant at RMU after serving as the defensive coordinator at Virginia Military Institute in 2019.
During his time as a coach at Robert Morris, Doyle saw the Colonials have back-to-back winning seasons with RMU defeating four ASUN Conference foes in 2021.
He ended the 2021 campaign coaching alongside McMinn at the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division I/II All-Star Game for the South Team.
Despite the season being cut short due to COVID, Doyle helped the Colonials to a 4-2 record in 2020 in his first season at RMU with the program winning its final three games of the year against High Point (15-11), Detroit Mercy (16-13) and Marquette (11-10).
In his first season as a full-time coach, Doyle coached two-time All-Southern Conference first-team defender Kyle Walsh to finish as the national runner-up in caused turnovers per game (3.23) at VMI in 2019. The Keydets ranked sixth nationally in that statistic as a team, forcing 10.62 per game.
Prior to his coaching days, Doyle was a team captain at Robert Morris, playing in 60 games over four seasons while compiling 15 points (10 goals, 5 assists) on offense while also recording 47 groundballs and 23 caused turnovers on defense. He led the Colonials to a program-record 13 wins in 2018 with RMU advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
He finished his collegiate career by participating in the USILA Senior All-Star game, one of 10 RMU players to earn a spot in the all-star contest since 2008.
Doyle graduated from Robert Morris in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in business management after being a four-year Dean’s List recipient and Northeast Conference Academic and Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection.
