Sheldon Carvalho born and raised in Hawaii, Carvalho was immersed in one of the most prominent volleyball cultures in the U.S. growing up in a sport oriented family with six children.
Carvalho works with indoor and beach volleyball at Utah as a volunteer assistant.

Carvalho lettered in volleyball, basketball, and track in high school, and was selected to the Kauai Interscholastic Federation (KIF) all-star team in volleyball as an outside hitter.

Since his playing days, he has worked with USA National Team member and University of Hawaii’s men's volleyball All-American Allen Allen on his A2 Beach Clinics, Akamai Beach Tour and played in 4 on 4 beach tournament Spike and Pig.

In addition to working with Allen's beach clinics, Carvalho trained the youth in Alaska, while serving as the Associate Head Coach during the summers for the Pass to Play youth beach Program with Beach Director Erica Johnson.
Not only did he have an impact on beach in Alaska, but served as the assistant/associate head coach at the University of Alaska on their indoor team from 2015-18. During Carvalho’s four seasons at UAA, he helped to amass a record of 101-24, received the 2016 AVCA National Assistant Coach of the Year after helping the Seawolves to a program-best 34-3 record, Back to Back Great Northwest Athletic Conference title and runner-up in the 2016 NCAA Div. II National Title Match.
At UAA, Carvalho’s role as the recruiting coordinator helped produce the 2016, 2017 and 2018 GNAC Freshmen of the Year and 2017 GNAC Newcomer of the Year. In addition, Carvalho helped coach 11 All-GNAC honorees, five All-Americans and captured the top seed for the NCAA West Regional Championships in two of four campaigns as well as making the post season west region championship tournament in three of four seasons.
Carvalho coached at UAA after serving two seasons as head coach of American Leadership Academy, a high school program in Spanish Fork, Utah, where his teams posted top-4 regional finishes and made the Class 2A State Tournament in 2013 and 2014. He also coached at ALA from 2008-09, leading the school to its first-ever appearance at State.
In between those stints, Carvalho was the head coach at junior college program Western Texas College from 2010-12, collecting three consecutive 20-win seasons and a 67-40 overall record. At WTC, his 2011 and 2012 squads were the NJCAA Region V champions and made appearances at the national tournament. Carvalho coached two All-Americans, four all-conference players and helped WTC to its first-ever national ranking – reaching as high as No. 11. He was honored as the District E Junior College Coach of the Year in both 2011 and 2012.
In beach, Carvalho took his first head coaching job in 2007 at Kahuku High School in his home state of Hawaii, leading his team to the Inaugural Blue Division Oahu Island championship and a 14-2 record.
Carvalho also played men's doubles as well as co-ed doubles summer sand volleyball in the Alaska Outdoor Volleyball Association directed by Jim Dooley.

He completed a 2017 AVCA Beach Volleyball training seminar certification conducted by head beach volleyball coach at the University of Pepperdine, Marcio Sicoli.
