The University of Utah ski team took third place in their first invitational of the year. With competition being held at the Montana State University, the Utes fell 25 points shy of first place finishers, Colorado. Pre-season favorites, Denver University claimed second place, edging out the Utes by 19 points. Many impressive performances were turned in by Utah skiers.
In her first ever collegiate competition, freshman Lene Pederson finished seventh in the 10K freestyle and 17th in the 5K classic cross country events. In the men's cross country events, twins Frode and Rune Kollerud turned in a second and a third place finish to claim high points. Another freshman star for the Utes was Liz Sherry who captured second place in the women's slalom.
Utah's season continues on Jan. 15-16 when they will host the Utah Invitational which will be held at Park City Ski Resort.
