In its first Invitational in two weeks, the University of Utah Ski Team is in third place having completed half of the weekend's events. Defending NCAA Champion Colorado is in first place, with 101 points, followed by New Mexico with 94.
The Utes, having tallied 88 points, are 13 out of the lead. Top finishes on the men's team were turned in by Ryan Forsyth who earned fourth place in the men's giant slalom, and freshman Scott Woodland who slotted eighth in the same event. In the 10K cross country skate, Frode Kollerud tied for second place with Ian Skinner from Nevada-Reno. Kollerud's twin brother Rune wasn't far behind, finishing fifth.
In the women's events, Sabrina Lawrence had a strong afternoon earning fifth in the women's giant slalom. Liz Sherry, who represented the Utes last weekend at the World University Games, came in ninth. An eight place finish by Hailey Wappett, led Utah in the women's 5K cross country skate, followed by freshman Lene Pederson who turned in a twelfth place.
The New Mexico Invitational wraps up tomorrow, Feb. 6, with the men's and women's slalom, as well as the men's and women's classic cross country races.
