SALT LAKE CITY - A total of 10 female student-athletes from eight different NCAA Division I schools comprise the 2000 GTE Fall/Winter Women's At-Large Academic Team for District VIII as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)
In order to be eligible for Academic All-American honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must be a starter or an important reserve and be in at least their second season at their current school.
District VIII includes schools in the states ofAlaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and British Columbia.
The District VIII winners advance to the GTE All-American national ballot. The national GTE Academic All-American Team will be announced on April 20, 2000.
Sabrina Lawrence was the only skier from the ten athletes selected on the team. Lawrence is a junior and currently holds a 3.98 grade point average while majoring in Mass Communications.
Recently, Lawrence competed in the NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Utah and placed sixth in the slalom and 12th in the giant slalom. Her career accolades include two nominations to the All-American and all-conference teams, being named the co-winner of Utah's Toril Forland Outstanding Skier Award in 1999 and several top-10 finishes in national, regional invitationals.
