SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team (6-7 overall, 3-2 MWC) concludes a three-match homestand, as the Utes host in-state rival Brigham Young University Fri., Mar. 31 at 5:00 p.m. at the Eccles Tennis Center.
About the Utes:
Utah is on a two-match win streak, defeating a much improved Air Force squad 7-2, and arguably the deepest Boise State team ever 5-4. Utah will take to the court for the first time in two-and-a-half weeks. The rest was well needed as several Utes have been battling nagging injuries. No. 1 singles player Megan Payne-Dorny (shoulder), Irini Kotoglou (knee and arm), and Anna Stechert (leg) have been suffering through chronic pain, with Payne-Dorny the only one of the three not having to default or retire a match.
All of Utah's seven losses have come at the hands of ranked opponents. This week's match would prove a big upset in a bid to qualify for the NCAA regionals four out of the last five seasons.
About the Cougars:
BYU is ranked No. 41 in the country, with No. 1 singles performer Eline Chiew sporting a No. 58 ranking. BYU's last result was a 5-4 loss to No. 43 San Diego State, where the Cougars won two of three doubles matches.
Looking Ahead:
Utah will be Southeastern Conference bound heading to the land of Florida to take on No. 8 Florida and No. 20 Florida State in Gainesville and Tallahassee, April 3-4 at 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. respectively.
