SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH - At the annual Utah Ski Team Awards Ceremony and Luncheon, the Utes announced their several awards recipients for the 2000 season.
Earning national honors were six student athletes named to the All American Team. Jernej Bukovec was named to the Men's Alpine, First Team, Scott Woodland to the Men's Alpine Second Team and Sabrina Lawrence to the Women's Alpine Second Team. On the Nordic side, Rob Whitney was named to the Men's First Team, Petter Svendsen to the Men's Second Team and Kristina Joder to the Women's First Team.
Six skiers were named to the all conference team. Lawrence and Liz Sherry earned nominations Women's Alpine Second Team. Four nordic skiers earned the distinction as Whitney was named to the Men's First Team, Svendsen to the Men's Second Team, Joder to the Women's Second Team and Marika Engstrom to the Women's Second Team.
Other individual Utah Ski Program awards were given on Friday.
The Alf Engren Sportsmanship Award, given to the athlete whose affairs have been conducted professionally through hard work and determination, helping to mold the team through fine personal relationships with all athletes, was awarded to senior Pat Casey.
The C. D. Reddish Memorial Award goes to the graduating senior or upper classman who has contributed the most to the team, not only in results, per se, but with respect to community relations and promoting the sports as a diplomatic embassador, was given to junior Sabrina Lawrence.
The award for the male athlete who has been one of the most influential factors to the success of the team with outstanding results through the entire competitive season is the David Novelle Outstanding Skier Award, and was given to co-recipients, Jernej Bukovec and Rob Whitney.
The Toril Forland Outstanding Skier Award is given to the female athlete who has been an important factor ro the success and accomplishments of the Women's Ski Team programs and was awarded to Kristina Joder.
